Entry requirements for Pakistani students
These are the standard requirements across most Irish universities for undergraduate admission as a Pakistani international student.
Academic Qualifications
Pakistani students need a minimum FA/FSc or equivalent (intermediate level). Your marks matter — competitive courses at top universities require 70–80%+ in your board exams. A-Levels and IB qualifications are also accepted at most institutions.
English Language Proof
All Irish universities require proof of English. Accepted tests include:
- IELTS: Minimum 6.0 (most courses), 6.5 for competitive programmes
- TOEFL: Minimum 80 iBT
- PTE Academic: Minimum 55–60
- Cambridge C1/C2: Grade B or above
Supporting Documents
Prepare the following for your university application:
- Certified academic transcripts (all years)
- Valid passport (6 months minimum validity)
- English test certificate (IELTS/TOEFL)
- Personal statement / statement of purpose
- Two academic references
- Completed online application form
EU vs Non-EU Status
As a Pakistani student, you are classified as a Non-EU student — this affects your fee structure significantly. Non-EU students pay full international fees (€9,000–€30,000/year) whereas EU students pay subsidised fees. Confirm your status with each university's International Office before applying.
How to apply — the complete process
Start this process at least 8–12 months before your intended September start date. The earlier the better — popular courses fill up quickly.
Research and shortlist universities
Compare courses, fees, entry requirements, and location. Shortlist 3–5 universities that match your academic profile and career goals.
Take your English test
Book and sit your IELTS or TOEFL exam. Allow time for a resit if needed — results take 13 days for IELTS.
Submit university applications
Apply directly through each university's online portal. Pay the application fee (usually €50–€75 per university, non-refundable).
Receive offer letter and accept
Once you receive a conditional or unconditional offer, accept it and pay any required deposit to secure your place.
Apply for your student visa
Apply for your D (Long-Stay) study visa through VFS Pakistan (Islamabad, Lahore, or Karachi). You'll need your offer letter, proof of fees paid, bank statements, and IELTS results. Visa fee: approximately €60–€100.
Arrange accommodation and travel
Book university accommodation early — it fills up fast. Arrange travel insurance and bring all original documents with you.
Register for your IRP
Register for your Irish Residence Permit (IRP) at your local immigration office within 90 days of arriving in Ireland.
📅 Key Intakes
This is the primary intake for virtually all undergraduate programmes. The vast majority of courses and places are available here. Apply by June/July for September start.
Fewer courses are available in January. Most are at private colleges. A smaller number of university undergraduate programmes offer this intake.
