Foundation Courses in Ireland
for International Students
Not quite ready for direct university entry? A Foundation Year in Ireland gives you the academic English and subject skills to progress into first year of a degree at UCD, TCD, TU Dublin, DCU, Griffith, or Maynooth โ often with a guaranteed place.
A Foundation Year (also called an International Foundation Programme or IFP) is a bridging programme that prepares international students for undergraduate degree entry at an Irish university. It is the right choice if your secondary school results don't meet direct entry requirements, your IELTS is below 6.0, or your home country curriculum is not directly equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate.
- 01 Complete Foundation Year with required grades (typically 60%+)
- 02 Progress to Year 1 of your chosen degree at the partner university โ often guaranteed
- 03 Complete undergraduate degree (3โ4 years) and apply for 12-month post-study Stamp 1G
- 04 Seek employment and apply for Critical Skills or General Employment Permit
